Sunday, August 13th, the people of St. Stephen Parish participated in a Eucharistic Procession. It was such a beautiful day to follow Christ through West Salem. We had two stops for prayer. Those who were not able to walk stayed in the church for Adoration. After the procession and Benediction, there was an Ice Cream Social in Hackman Hall.
St. Stephen Parish now has a blessed statue of Our Lady of Fatima that was purchased in memory of Fr. Uhler, who had a deep love and devotion for our Lady. She is available to bring into our homes for 1 week at a time. You can even sign up for more weeks. This is a fantastic way to honor and pray to our Lady, especially the rosary, with your family, and even invite family members and friends over to pray with you for peace, conversion, a special need or intention, for this country, the world, for poor sinners and the souls of our dearly departed.. JoAnn Arnold shares her experience by saying, "I can tell you 1st hand what a beautiful program this is. I and my family had the Pilgrim Statue in our home for 1 week, and I felt like a child on Christmas morning! Even after I returned the statue, & that feeling did not leave right away. I felt a peace that I cannot explain, and her presence in my home and wherever I went. I feel a longing for her to return to my home, but I want YOU to have a chance to feel this. I am positive of her special brand of blessings, prayers, and intercession. I also believe that this will strengthen our Parish, and help us grow into a strong, holy, dynamic parish, as well as in number.". For more information, stop by after Mass, to the table next to the new Our Lady of Guadalupe statue. JoAnn Arnold or Deacon Pete will be happy to answer your questions and show you how to sign up.
MEALS AND MORE
Do you know that we offer a free meal every Wednesday from 5:30 to 6:15, in Hackman Hall? We not only offer a great meal, but this is also a time to get out of the house and make new friends. We also offer carry-out meals. We often have canned food and such that has been donated to our program, which our visitors can take home with them. Our volunteers do a wonderful job trying to make everyone feel right at home. You can call the office for more information, 419-853-4946, or send us an email at info@ststephen.ws

Bishop Malesic traveled to West Salem on June 26 to help celebrate the 70th Anniversary of St. Stephen Parish
The bishop said the first Mass was celebrated in June 1952 in a house purchased for the Catholic community in West Salem. At that time, Harry Truman was president and Edward Hoban was the Cleveland bishop. A snapshot of the time showed that pork roast was 39 cents a pound; sugar was 43 cents for five pounds; coffee was 37 cents a pound and gasoline was 27 cents a gallon.
The Catholic community continued to grow in West Salem, and by 1977 the current church was built and the mission was elevated in status to a parish.
“Think of all the Masses, all the sacraments celebrated over the years, baptisms, weddings, anointings and the sins forgiven here. And there were times of joy and times of sadness,” the bishop said. “This parish was made up of people who would laugh with us and cry with us. That is why we are grateful for this anniversary and want to look forward to our future together.”
He referred to the parish mission statement, “We remain faithfully Catholic as a small rural parish community. It is in the parish setting where we receive the Body and Blood of Christ, listen to the Word of God proclaimed, find forgiveness of our sins in reconciliation, communal support and always to give life to our faith. We celebrate the sanctity of life and worship God as we prayerfully tend to the needs of body and spirit. Working together, we seek to build a strong parish community where all feel welcome and inspired to live God’s mission with faith, hope and love.” The bishop thanked the congregation for celebrating the sanctity of life, mentioning the recent Supreme Court of the United States decision that overturned Roe v. Wade. For the full story, click on the following link :
